Besides your great California auto loans, a goal of yours should be to make sure you do not get ripped off by a dealer. A new automobile should be a great experience that is very rewarding. A dealer will always look to get the upper hand, and this could end up working against you. If your automobile does not work for you then you are throwing money at a bad thing. This is why you need to know how to meet the dealer and fight off their tricks. The following are things you can do to get the upper hand.

You must know what you want from a car, and what you are looking for in that car. The dealer will always want to let you know what you should be looking for in that automobile. In reality, this is not what you want but actually what they want you to buy. They will do this by telling you everything this auto has to offer. However, if you know what the auto has to offer then you will not be surprised by anything they have to say. This puts the power back on your side. Oh no, a dealer wouldn't stretch the truth would they? Hah! If you walk into the dealership and do not know anything, then you are at the mercy of the dealer. That is not a good place for you to be.

The dealer will make it known that their first offer is their best offer and you should take it. However, because you did your research you know that they probably have not made their best offer. This is very good because you will know how to counter. Always go lower then you think you should right away, this fights of their offer. Then they might start a stall tactic. They will say they need to talk to the manager about your offer, and they will wait around for a bit. This is done to make you nervous and make you feel uneasy. If they try to do this you must make it known that you do not have very long and you will have to leave soon. You need to be calling the shots and you should not be pushed around. Do not let them try any tactics on you.

One thing that goes overlooked is the test drive of the automobile. You must test drive the automobile and make sure that it fits you and that you are comfortable in it. If they do not offer one, then ask about it. You must drive it long enough to see how it handles, how it turns and backs up, etc. You do not want any surprises after you drive off the lot because by then it is too late. You must not give over your license at this point either. When they have your license they can keep it as long as they want to try and persuade you. Make copies of your license and write "No Credit Checks Authorized" over the paper.
